Dear All Parents/Carers and Swimmers,

I would like to welcome you all, both old and new to the swim school.

We have now entered the third week of term and you would have noticed that I have arranged for more helpers in the water to assist your children during their lessons.

There are distance days arranged for Wednesday 19th and Saturday 22nd November 2008. Your children will need to turn up for their lesson as usual, unless they are due to swim 400m or more, as they may need more time. I will issue a slip nearer the time stating the distance and stroke your child needs to do.

When your child is tested the following standard will be required:
Below 15m on the back: may paddle and over 15m on the back must be back crawl.
Up to and including 20m on the front: may paddle
From and including 25m: attempt recognisable stroke
From and including 50m: recognisable stroke
From and including 100m: good style/technique – mixture of 2 strokes which one must be on the back and one on the the front e.g. 50m back crawl and 50m front crawl.
From and including 400m: mixed. All 3 strokes (front crawl, back crawl & breaststroke) must be done. e.g. 400m = 100m of each plus 100m of pupil’s choice.
ON DISTANCES OF 50m OR BELOW: pupils must complete the distance both on the front and back before moving up to the next distance.

Upon finishing their swim they will be given a slip stating the stroke and distance they have passed and if you would like to order the badge and certificate there will be a charge of £2.00. The badges and certificates will be issued at the end of term. This charge will apply to all badges and certificates in the future.

Just a quick reminder, should you need to come onto poolside NO OUTDOOR FOOTWEAR is permitted. If you wish, you can purchase shoe covers from myself at 50p a pair.

There is NO SWIMMING on Wednesday 29th October and Saturday 1st November and 6th December 2008.

Kind regards,

Liz Turk
